Incidental benign brenner tumor and aymptomatic uterine leiomyomas: a clinicopathological correlation
Abstract
Brenner tumor is a rare epithelial-stromal tumor of the ovary. It is mostly asymptomatic and benign. It often accompanies other gynecological pathologies such as uterine fibroids and is incidentally detected during pathological examination after surgery. This case report presents a 47-year-old female patient who presented with complaints of dysmenorrhea and menorrhagia. Evaluation revealed multiple uterine fibroids and simple endometrial hyperplasia without atypia. Preoperative ultrasonography showed a well-defined, 22 mm hypoechoic cystic lesion in the right ovary. The patient underwent laparoscopic hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. While uterine pathology was reported as leiomyoma, pathological examination of the right ovary revealed epithelial cell nests with clear cytoplasm and nuclear grooves embedded in fibromatous stroma, and the diagnosis of benign Brenner tumor was confirmed by consultation at a tertiary center. This case aims to contribute to the literature by highlighting the frequent association of benign Brenner tumor with symptomatic uterine pathologies, its asymptomatic course, and the fact that the diagnosis was made through histopathological examination.
