Complex spinal case associated with Angelman syndrome
Angelman syndrome may be complicated by rapidly progressive neuromuscular scoliosis. We report a 14-year-old girl with three months of worsening deformity and new right-leg weakness, with double curves ~80°. Posterior instrumented correction was performed with multimodal intraoperative neuromonitoring; baseline signals were obtained supine and rechecked after prone positioning, guiding safe correction. Early postoperative radiographs showed improved alignment. This case underscores the need for early recognition, individualized surgical planning, and routine neuromonitoring to minimize neurologic risk in Angelman syndrome–associated scoliosis.
